Welcome to Bolivia.
Bolivia was a country I knew I wanted to visit on my 3-month itinerary through South America
There is SO much exploring to do in Bolivia, this diverse, land-locked country in South America. From the Amazon rainforest and Lake Titicaca to riding down the World’s Most Dangerous Road in La Paz, travellers can find just what kind of adventure they are seeking.
I chose to live with a family in Sucre while attending Spanish school. Living in a family compound, I had the opportunity to commune with real residents of this complex and fascinating country. Four grown sisters lived with their children and the matriarch of the family. I watched in fascination (and a little envy) at the apparent ease with which the generations lived side by side.
Heading to Bolivia? Have a little Spanish in your back pocket as many people don’t speak English. Allow yourself plenty of time to explore this South American country as the longer you are there, the longer you want to stay. I did not leave myself nearly enough time (2 weeks) and therefore, it too makes the list of “must return to” countries I have visited.

- The Salar de Uyuni is a highlight of every traveller’s journey to Bolivia. The endless expanse of the salt flats is an unforgettable sight along with coloured lagoons full of flamingoes.
