Nicaragua

Welcome to Nicaragua: Granada
Skyline in Granada, Nicaragua

Welcome to Nicaragua

Welcome to the Central American country of Nicaragua. It has both a Caribbean coastline and also a Pacific one. Nicaragua has colonial cities, coffee plantations, and volcanoes to climb. The country, notably its people and jungle hold a special place in my heart.  I would go back in a heartbeat and so it breaks my heart to know that civil unrest is reigning in this country right now. (since April 2018)

These trusty travel guides will give you information and ideas on where to go and what to see. Try this one for all the details solely on Nicaragua and this travel guide if you are planning on covering more than one country in Central America.

Posts on Nicaragua

The highlight of Nicaragua were the two jungle treks along the southern border it shares with Costa Rica. If you are looking for an off the beaten path adventure in this country, head south. The wildlife is astounding from exotic birdlife to a wide variety of monkeys. Riding the boat up the Rio Papaturro with the locals is an experience I will never forget.

  • After a stint in Granada, the jungle was calling. It was a trek to get to Los Guatuzos but it was absolute magic. Jungle magic, in fact.
  • Travel up the Rio Juan to Base Camp Bartola where living in a tent, meeting the locals and making some chocolate fill your time.
